Activating Students

Welcome students into meal program design

Activating students provides them with an expanded perspective of the work required to build a successful meal program, while providing you with more authentic insights about how they think and feel. When a student feels included in the meal program, they feel a greater sense of belonging and connection to the experience.

ACTIVITIES

Inspired by conversations with students and FNS directors, these activities can help you uncover new ideas to make the meal program more student-centered.

  • Survey Says...

Use surveys and asynchronous methods to reach more students and to get honest feedback

  • Feedback from a Friend

Asking students to interview each other can tap into a different type of energy and surface new possibilities

  • Visual Inspiration

Connect with students' creative side and crowdsource ideas

  • Reflect Diversity

Tap into the diversity of your student body to introduce new flavors and tastes

  • Plug-and-Play Brand

Adding branded elements to program touch points can shift perspectives and help students see the food in a new light

  • Learn Through Observation

Ethnography — observing and reflecting on peoples’ behavior — helps you understand your students better and make changes that meet their needs
